Is counseling the right option for you?
This is me folks!
An atmosphere to help facilitate your mental health and wellbeing.
My name is Smiler Overton. I have graduated with a Master of Counseling from Yorkville University, and I did my practicum work with Pivot Point Family Growth Centre. I’m a Certifiec Canadian Counsellor through the CCPA. My counseling approach is rooted in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and I also ask the client to direct the process as I integrate other methods such as narrative therapy once the therapeutic relationship has been established. I’m especially drawn to trauma work and facilitating the grief process. I also appreciate meeting each person where they are at in their journey. I care very much for my community, and I feel inspired to help support it. I also enjoy the outdoors and cooking during my free time. I acknowledge the land of the T'Sou-ke Nation and SENĆOŦEN-speaking peoples whose traditional territory I call home. I'm a professional member of the Canadian Counsellor's Psychological Association. My CCC number is: 11245940.
A Client-Directed Approach
It’s essential to listen to each client carefully and tailor interventions to meet their specific needs. My role is to share my expertise of the counseling field to help the client address what it is that they want/need to explore in their therapeutic journey.
What to expect…
The services I provide follow a Cognitive Behavioural Framework. We will use an evidence-based approach to gather information about the client’s situation. We will examine the client’s thoughts, feelings, behaviour and body reactions to build upon the client’s understanding of their situation and develop appropriate intervention strategies to move forward with their situation. Each session will begin with a check-in, then a follow-up with the client’s current presenting concern. Near the end of the session, the client and therapist will collaborate on specific homework to focus on in the upcoming week to reinforce the clients discoveries. The therapeutic relationship in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy typically concludes after 10-12 sessions.
